Enter hot-fill. Following pasteurization, these beverages are heated to approx. 200 degrees Fahrenheit and introduced into either glass or plastic bottles specially designed to withstand high temperatures. Then, after they’ve been capped, the bottles are immediately cooled down again.
The result? Safe, flavorful beverages that have retained their nutrients and aroma without the need for preservatives or additives. But hot-fill caps have to be heavier than other beverage caps which aren’t exposed to high heat.
